Sherry Russell
is a Registered BCST Practitioner and Certified Yoga Teacher.
She is inspired by many teachers and incorporates various BCST modalities within her practice. Her journey and fascination with continuing education is ongoing. Her sense of touch, “palpation,” allows her to listen to the body discovering areas of inertia that may be the cause of disturbances or discomfort.
BCST is a composite of numerous techniques and approaches. Sherry is trained in Visceral (abdominal) Techniques that can be used to treat the underlying causes of migraines, esophageal reflux, pelvic floor or digestive issues, among other symptoms.
Sherry is also a skilled Metabolic Practitioner in which hand placement is used gently but directly on an artery or vein. This type of treatment is used to treat the nervous system, (in particular, stomach issues,) concussions, long covid and cancer. The supportive space she holds, allows her clients to move through traumatic experiences past and present.
Sherry became a certified craniosacral therapist in 2017. She began studying Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) with Stillpoint NYC in 2019. She works one-on-one through this modality with clients of all ages.
She also teaches yoga to students of all ages. Through her deep understanding of anatomy and refined sense of touch, she helps students navigate restrictions, heal injuries, and informs their understanding of the practice. Sherry teaches at The Shala Yoga House, The Children’s Workshop School, and privately.
She began a daily Ashtanga practice in 2001 with Eddie Stern. She has taught Ashtanga Yoga for The Shala Yoga House since 2010. Sherry is honored to have had the privilege of assisting her teachers Nancy Gilgoff and Christine Hoar on their annual adjustment clinics and workshops in Vermont and Montauk since 2008.
In 2013-14, she worked with Eddie Stern’s Ashtanga Yoga Outreach providing Ashtanga Yoga to adults with autism and developmental disabilities at a Day Hab in Staten Island, NY. She also taught Yoga and Developmental Movement Patterns at the Infant and Child Learning Center with ages 2-4 years in 2014-17. She continues to work both in the public sector and privately with adults and children on the spectrum.
Additionally she has been teaching Yoga & Meditation since 2005 to children in NYC public schools. From 2005-16 her work in the school system was in collaboration with Bent on Learning, one of the original NYC-based organizations providing Yoga to underserved communities. In 2016 she began developing and facilitating her own Yoga and Meditation curriculum with an emphasis on embodiment and mindfulness.
In addition to her Yoga and BCST certifications, she is trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Non-Violent Communication, and the Self-Realization Process.
She lives in Brooklyn with her wife Catherine and their little dog, Bambi.
